PoniPoni Visual Novel Creator
PoniPoni
In an attempt to encourage the creation of more pony visual novels, Taivastiuku decided to create a web-based tool for that purpose and called it PoniPoni. It's still in a fairly early state, mind you, and the average person probably won't give this more than a passing glance at the moment, but I get the impression that if this ever gets anywhere it could become a rather useful tool for folks wanting to whip together a quick VN. Perhaps more developers would be attracted to the project if the source code were to be released on GitHub or something, I dunno.
...In memory of theabriged.com being taken down some time ago and the loss of my epic work of interactive fiction, "The Drakening of the Moon", I give you this illustration.

My Little Game Dev Marathon Pt. 2
Some of you may remember the My Little Game Dev Marathon which was held earlier this year, and I'm (would say "we're", but the others aren't here so...) happy to announce that they've recently launched another one. The requirements for entries are fairly simple: at least 1 level playable level, bare essentials, decent graphics, no R34 content, and finally the marathon logo should be present somewhere within the game. The deadline is December 30th: so if you're interested in participating then you should probably get started soon and have your project ready before then, where they'll pack all the games together and send them to various prominent fansites for reviewing.
More detailed information can be found on the thread at http://mylittlegamedev.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=1105&pid=5933
Being the only active poster on this site makes me feel rather lonely sometimes. Wonder when Enigma Sage and Arctic Lux will come back...

20% Faster
Some brave anon took it upon himself to delve into /collab/ once more to see if he could find anything worthwhile, and he stumbled across some Korean student's pet project: a 3D engine that he wants to use for a Rainbow Dash game someday. The preview video looks pretty neat for the most part, although until he can find a 3D modeller who is willing to help him this will remain nothing but a fairly nice tech demo. 'Tis a shame, I know, but they're kind of in short supply right now and the majority of the ones I know are already busy working their butts off on Legends of Equestria or their own personal projects.
There's more info about the game on the developer's blog, which can be found at http://bab2min.tistory.com/ (although you'll probably have to run the page through Google Translate, since it's in Korean).

My Little Game Dev Re-Opens
(Forums)
After spending several months in a more or less inaccessible state, the My Little Game Dev community has finally relaunched its main site and forums to the general public. The forums (along with their quirky Cloudsdale group) are still the main draw for MLGD, of course, while the main site will apparently post articles on pony game development and whatnot. The latter I find to be an especially interesting idea if they manage pull it off well enough, as it's something I've always wanted to do myself once I actually manage to finish one of my own games. After all, articles on game development written by people who've never actually tried it tend to go horribly wrong, as The Round Stable unwittingly demonstrated for us back in August.
If you're interested, you can check out their forums at http://mylittlegamedev.com/forums.

Rainbow Dash Brawl Mod Trailer & Beta
So, I know you guys like Super Smash Bros. Brawl built around ponies - how about ponies inserted into Brawl? Spearheaded by turbobear, this project currently includes several skins for Rainbow Dash (including Scootaloo and WonderBolt) and a variety of moves. While it's far from finished, you can download the current build here.
The project is currently in growth mode: the team is looking for an animator, a modeler, and an additional code monkey to finish up Dash and begin work on the rest of the Mane 6. If you're interested, or just want to follow the project, the official thread can be found here. Have fun!

MLP: RPG Part 1
Good afternoon/evening/morning, fillies and gentlecolts! If you've already recovered from your Pinkie-induced highs, then listen up. For the last several months, the DarkkyShadow team has been hard at work upon the bluntly named MLP: RPG, an open world ponies-on-earth role-playing game. More about the project after the break!
MLP: RPG is certainly still in its development stage, with many game aspects unfinished. However, much of the game framework has been completed, and there's certainly plenty of world to explore.
The game starts off promisingly, with a clear menu interface and a flashy intro sequence. With characteristic impetuousness, everyone's favorite lavender unicorn casts a powerful incantation at a mysterious altar, sending herself and many other ponies hurtling across space and time to earth.
The game starts out a little slowly - at the beginning, when you're limited to a low-level Twilight Sparkle, most battles consist of spamming the attack button until all your enemies have folded. Soon, battling becomes more diverse: multiple attacks and enemies lend some needed variety. The mining skill is similarly button-mashy, but it's currently a minor part of the game. At the beginning, hold the shift key to walk more quickly, and make sure to obtain some antidotes before plunging into the abandoned mine.
Seriously, it's like the Viridian forest in here.
The game's strengths lie in its length and its usability, specifically its fully fleshed-out equip system, bestiary, and comprehensive list of achievements. The game uses vocal music from various brony artists instead of more traditional background fare, which can be a plus or a minus depending on your taste in music.
The game continues to grow more interesting as you add more ponies to your party and unlock more locations to explore. However, at higher levels, fighting is often severely unbalanced - enemies can be killed three times over with many special abilities but shrug off normal attacks without taking damage.
MLP:RPG is still in development, and thus not at a place where I'll review it as a finished title. Submitted as is, I'd give it a sturdy 6 or 7, as there's already a lot of promise. If you're a fan of RPGs and projects under development, get it while it's hot!

Ponyplace Updates
While most of us are out celebrating the return of pony and weathering the storm of Gak, I was checking out a few updates to the multiplayer chat room Ponyplace. Since I last visited, the interface is brighter and cleaner, and overall the site looks like it's been given a graphical facelift. It's also started to take on a few more game-like characteristics - characters are bought with bits, and you can save your account in between visits. Can we overload the server again? That remains to be seen.

Megamare X Seeking Level Designers
SaltyJustice, a prominent developer from Starlight Studios, decided that Megamare X could really use a new level designer and submitted a post on Ponychan's /collab/ board asking for help. Problem is, he apparently hasn't realized that /collab/ is (among other things) dead and very unproductive. Since I can safely assume that all of us want to see the project reach completion in the near future, I decided to take the liberty of reposting his thread in hopes that he would have more luck finding someone here.
A copypasta of the full post, along with details on how to apply, can be found below the break.
A copypasta of the full post, along with details on how to apply, can be found below the break.
Hello everypony!
Starlight Studios is developing a game called Megamare-X, and we're looking for at least one level designer to help us make it a reality.
The game is a jump-and-run-and-shoot platformer modelled after Megaman-X. More information is available upon request, but the important point is that our level designer must be able to analyze and understand how a Megaman-X level works and is constructed.
Much of the public information on the project can be found at http://www.mlponline.net/threads/megamare-x-clarifications.2048/
What we are not looking for is simple level layouts. We are also not specifically looking for someone to do art (tiles, backgrounds) for these levels, though that skill is handy if you have it. What we are looking for is someone who understands (or is not averse to learning) what makes a level fun, what features can be added, how the enemies and their positioning contributes to the level, and how a level is meant to teach a player over time.
If you're really interested, we also require that you be online and attentive. We use skype to communicate with one another, and have team meetings often throughout the week, and you are required to be present at least once a week (more is better!). We do our best to keep times flexible, but being present and communicating often is vital!
If you have previous level-design experience, by all means, apply! If you don't, but think you have the guts, you may as well take a stab at it. We work hard and we're at it all the time - this is a fan project, but it's also our passion, and we hope to make another game after Megamare-X that will be commercial. If you're good at your job, we might have a place for you.
This recruiting drive will last a finite amount of time, so don't delay. I will reply to this thread once we close it. If you have additional questions, post them here. What is expected of you will be detailed after we receive your reply, serious applicants only.
To apply: Email me directly. saltyjustice AT starlightstudios DAWT org Make sure to leave some method of contacting you.
Skype is preferred, but email will do as well.

My Little Game Dev + Creepypasta Contest!
Sometimes I have found myself wishing that there was a forum for My Little Pony fangame developers, but a couple days ago some folks from My Little Game Jam started discussing this idea amongst themselves. Usually this kind of talk doesn't get anywhere, but a bloke going by the username Wishdream took it upon himself to create the My Little Game Dev forums: a place where developers could come together, share their knowledge and just hang out. Sounds fun? Then join via this link.
In other news the site's founder has set up a creepypasta contest for the users to participate in, and there's a little over 2 days left. The prizes? Free art from Wishdream and exKira, along with a position on the devteam of a super secret fangame. It's not much, but at least it's a good excuse for some more creepypasta, eh?

Minipost: MoonLight engine, music and general update
If you remember the game MoonLight from a few posts back, it now has its own Tumblr in case you want to follow its progress. Along with that, the creator has added a "demo" of the engine being tried out and a sample of the music that has been made so far. The engine is still in an extremely early state, but I think it gives a good feel of what the game is aiming for.

Super Smash Ponies Update #2
You guys, this project is being developed so fast it's blowing my mind. The new update video features a booming announcer voice, a selection interface, and 3 playable stages with 7 characters. Zilven's also started a development Tumblr, which you can access via the link above, and he's looking for feedback on the game. You can expect an open beta soon!

My Little Game Jam has begun!
Why are you reading this? You're already behind! Yes, the first round of My Little Game Jam started four hours ago! You've only got until this weekend ends (midnight Sunday to Monday UTC, or 4:00 PM Pacific Time on the 7th, for all my Seattle bronies) to complete your game. It's certainly not too late to start - but you must have your chaos-themed My Little Pony fangame completed and submitted by the deadline. Here are the rules, shamelessly copied from their front page:
- All assets and game logic must be created during the weekend of competition.
- The contest is individuals only. You have to work alone.
- The game must follow the theme announced at the beginning of the competition (chaos).
- Code and assets must be open-sourced and added to the submission.
Caught flat-footed? Never fear: you may miss the contest, but any 48 hours is a perfectly good time to make a pony fangame in my book. I'm thoroughly jazzed to see what you guys come up with, and I'm certainly looking forward to raving about the winners come next week!

Super Smash Ponies
Everyone loves Fighting Is Magic - however, not everyone was raised by the Street Fighter series. For some of us, our first and fondest memories of side-scrolling brawlers will always belong to Super Smash Bros. Fortunately, we at Equestria Gaming only feed our armada of caged game developers when they're hard at work. At their current rate, we're on track to ponify every major game release since Pong by 2018.
For his latest project, Fluttershy77 (Zilven Sparkle) is hard at work on a ponified, pixelated version of the classic. We're still waiting for a playable release, but he's recorded several more trailers on his channel. The project looks promising - so far, we've seen final smashes and some basic bot fighting - so go check it out!

Fallout: Equestria RPG Level Editor
So far progress on the Fallout: Equestria RPG is mainly restricted to engine work. It's not the most exciting stuff for the average gamer, true, but at least it is better than the horror of absolute silence, resulting in fears that yet another one bites the dust. This update shows the level editor in action, which should be at least somewhat interesting for the modding community and especially the Fallout:Equestria subfandom, who shall finally be given the tools to adapt their favorite Fo:E fanfics into playable epics. That is, unless all their 3D modelers suddenly die on them or something.
Now, the main thing holding back this project is that, in a surprising reversal of what most would expect, the developer has the project working on Linux alright but is having trouble compiling it on Windows.
