 For the third time in a row, the My Little Karaoke team has released a new batch of songs for aspiring horsefamous singers to destroy their vocal cords to. My Little Karaoke

 For those of you who are into karaoke and ponies, My Little Karaoke must be practically a godsend, and you'll be pleased to hear that they've released an additional content disc with a bunch of new songs for you to sing along to. It includes "the Equestria Girls soundtrack, silly things such as PFUDOR, and the first S4 song (Hearts Strong As Horses)", along with some performance improvements and general bugfixes. There may or may not be some other things, but I wouldn't know since I haven't really looked into it that much.

Will I play this myself? Probably not, since I'd rather keep my terrible singing to my goofy Skype calls, but if you enjoy being humiliated by a computer program criticizing your voice, this is for you. One can download it at http://www.mylittlekaraoke.com/index.php?pages/Game-download

MLP Online: First Contact Impressions and Screenshots

I wanted to call this post "First Contact First Impressions," but it came off sounding strange. As I'm sure most of you know, the first episode of My Little Pony Online (a little misleading, given that it's currently a single-player download) was released just yesterday. I've played through a part of the game, and found a few amusing glitches along the way. Check out the rundown after the break!

Initial problems with downloading the game have been mostly resolved: I was able to successfully run the installer through the zip file, which their web site currently recommends. Other modes of download can be found here, although the direct download may be unmanageable for those with slower internet connections and the torrent resulted in a crashy installer on my computer. 

The crew of MLP: Online has released a handy tutorial here for those new to the game. To their credit, the game interface is intuitive and is easy to master with or without it.

The game opens with a strange explosion, jolting Twilight Sparkle out of her slumber on an otherwise quiet night in Ponyville. Before running outside to investigate, press the 'E' key to highlight nearby objects available for inspection and check out the various books in Twilight's home for some hidden buffs.

After finishing the royal guard cutscene, I came to the conclusion that I might have downloaded a buggy older version of the game. I encountered a few weird texture glitches (see below) and a variety of places where I could warp partially through objects on the screen. I managed to crash the game twice (warning: do not click on dialogue options marked "DEBUG" before saving) and ended up unable to finish the demo. 

While I might have simply obtained bad files, I find a twisted pleasure in exploiting terrain glitches. Unfortunately, a review won't be forthcoming until I've gotten to the bottom of the problem - but until then, have some screenshots!

 The installer, loading menus and intro sequence are all very professional. Perhaps it has nothing to do with the game's current level of development, but it's a good omen for the future.

Unfortunately, you can't actually get up here except by walking behind the scenery and taking advantage of a faulty z-order bug.

Vinyl Scratch is into some quality tunes. She'd fit right in here.

Apple Cobbler's got an impressively well-defined personality in this game. Overall, the dialogue I encountered was very clever and enjoyable. 

Suddenly, Discord.

These seem to be all of the dialogue vectors included in the game's resources. At the least, it's a heads up of who we'll get to talk to later in the game.

Minipost: MoonLight engine, music and general update

MoonLight Update

If you remember the game MoonLight from a few posts back, it now has its own Tumblr in case you want to follow its progress. Along with that, the creator has added a "demo" of the engine being tried out and a sample of the music that has been made so far. The engine is still in an extremely early state, but I think it gives a good feel of what the game is aiming for.

 Contrary to the expectations of some people, /mlp/'s series of Game Dev threads have been pretty productive, although its output so far has mainly been limited to Flash puppets and animation tests. Project Magic is the second playable game to come out of those threads, a clone of Project Diva that is best played with an Xbox 360 controller for some reason. I actually haven't played it yet myself due to the relatively large filesize (mainly due to its including 1080p music videos), but I'm sure that at least some of you will enjoy this for the time being.

Also, if you don't install the hotfix the game will crash if you press any button on the keyboard. Pretty sweet, eh?

I'm not really the singing type, but I know that there are plenty of Bronies that would like nothing more to sing along to songs from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and get points for it. If you happen to be that type, then today is your lucky day! My Little Karaoke, a massive song pack for various karaoke games (such as UltraStar Deluxe, Performous, and Vocaluxe), has seen its first release and features various songs both from the show and from our glorious fandom. I haven't played it myself since it happened to share its release date with Black Mesa (which I spent all of last night downloading) but I hear that it's really great, so why don't you give it a shot, eh?

 It's been quite a while since we've posted anything related to My Little Karaoke, so you'll be pleased to hear that a new version of the game was released on Saturday. It features a whopping 150 songs from both the show and our fandom's talented musicians, support for up to 6 players on 2 screens, and high quality audio and video.

Last week, the crew behind My Little Karaoke - a song pack and modification for UltraStar for singing along with various pony songs - released a new content disc. The expansion provides a total of over 90 new songs according to the developers, including foreign language versions of a few official songs for you to improvise nonsensical lyrics over, as well as a bunch of brony music of... varying quality. (I liked a couple of them, anyway.) The update also comes with a new visual identity for the project.

You can find the download here, although the individual ZIP downloads of songs are no longer available, leaving the only option to download the entire 2GB ISO (which they seem insistent on using, as opposed to other, more sane archive formats for digital downloads like this) and extract the songs you want. The prior downloads have to be installed for an automatic installation to work, although nothing's stopping you from pulling the songs themselves into a custom UltraStar installation.

 Back in April a guy named ChurchCrusade released a great My Little Pony platformer named Magic Shards. Eventually a sequel was announced to be under development and a rather impressive demo was given to us in August. It is currently halfway under development, but the team is in need of some more musicians. You see, Rise of the Clockwork Stallions is very big for a fangame, with over seven worlds that contain six levels with their own soundtracks. That's 42 sounds for the levels alone; and even more are needed for the overworld, cutscenes, etc. As can be seen from the embedded playlist above the team already has a large portion of their quota done, but they could really use some extra help.

 As can be gathered from the game's announcement on Tumblr, Magic Hexagon is basically an open source clone of Super Hexagon with pony cutie marks, placing it under the "barely pony related" category. There's not really much to offer for feedback here without either essentially reviewing the original or commenting on the developer's taste in libraries/programming languages, although it would be nice to have some more variety when it comes to songs (the creator is looking for a musician though, so that might be resolved in the near future), along with pre-compiled OS X and Linux binaries in the near future.
