Banner Contest
Speaking of banners and banner submission, we here at Equestria Gaming have decided to hold a banner contest, the first of its kind. Anyone can submit; you can even submit more than once if you want to. Just be sure to submit it by Saturday, January 21, 2012. Yes, we're announcing this pretty early, so if you want in, you have a big timeframe to work.
At that point, I'll make a post with all the submissions, Equestria Daily style, and you all can vote on your favorites. The banner with the 4th highest number of votes will be the banner from February 1st to 7th. The 3rd highest banner will be showcased from the 8th to 14th, and so on, until the grand winner becomes the banner for the last week of February.
Rules and more details after the break...
Rules:
1. It must be a banner (of course)
2. It must feature the name Equestria Gaming
3. It must feature ponies in some form
4. It probably should have something to do with gaming - not required
5. It has to be appropriate - keep it classy guys, nothing suggestive or gory
6. It has to have been made by you - no art theft please
7. It has to be submitted by Saturday, January 21, 2012
Email your submissions to me at enigma9994@gmail.com, along with the author's name and any additional information you feel inclined to include. The phrase "Banner Submission" should appear somewhere in the subject line. The four winning banners will be the banner of Equestria Gaming during their respective weeks in February, and will include the authors' names in the corner for recognition (feel free to add this yourself if you want to customize it).
Note: There are no specific dimensions that you need to use: you guys are smart, and I trust you to make banners that would work. We can scale banners down to fit, but not up, so it's better to make it overly large to be safe. For reference, our current banner has an aspect ratio of 16:9.
Note 2: If you want to use the classic Equestria Gaming font, its name is Celestia Medium. You can download it here. You do not in any way have to use this font, it's just there if you need it.
Note 3: This happens to be the 100th post on Equestria Gaming. Hurrah!

My Little Game Dev Marathon Pt. 2
Some of you may remember the My Little Game Dev Marathon which was held earlier this year, and I'm (would say "we're", but the others aren't here so...) happy to announce that they've recently launched another one. The requirements for entries are fairly simple: at least 1 level playable level, bare essentials, decent graphics, no R34 content, and finally the marathon logo should be present somewhere within the game. The deadline is December 30th: so if you're interested in participating then you should probably get started soon and have your project ready before then, where they'll pack all the games together and send them to various prominent fansites for reviewing.
More detailed information can be found on the thread at http://mylittlegamedev.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=1105&pid=5933
Being the only active poster on this site makes me feel rather lonely sometimes. Wonder when Enigma Sage and Arctic Lux will come back...

My Little Game Dev + Creepypasta Contest!
Sometimes I have found myself wishing that there was a forum for My Little Pony fangame developers, but a couple days ago some folks from My Little Game Jam started discussing this idea amongst themselves. Usually this kind of talk doesn't get anywhere, but a bloke going by the username Wishdream took it upon himself to create the My Little Game Dev forums: a place where developers could come together, share their knowledge and just hang out. Sounds fun? Then join via this link.
In other news the site's founder has set up a creepypasta contest for the users to participate in, and there's a little over 2 days left. The prizes? Free art from Wishdream and exKira, along with a position on the devteam of a super secret fangame. It's not much, but at least it's a good excuse for some more creepypasta, eh?

Colors Of Time
Hang on, Discord's stopped time. That's rarely, if ever, a good thing. Right now, JCity's Colors of Time is a fairly short, basic platformer - however, its mechanics are nicely polished and the art very pretty for a 48-hour game jam. He's hinted that he may continue the project in the future - I, for one, would love to see it blossom into something unique. Link to the MLGJ page above!

Corruption
You guys never cease to amaze me. Complete with custom animation, creepy musical styling, and some slightly mind-bending visuals, The Oddwarg's Corruption is certainly one of the most colorful games to come out of My Little Game Jam. It's a little shorter than what I'd normally review, and borders on creepypasta, so I held off from grading it. Find the rundown after the break!
To be honest, the level styling of Corruption reminds me a lot of the Luna Games, which I'm a huge fan of. Using keyboard controls to move while controlling a magically levitated lantern with the mouse, the player attempts to guide Twilight through a shadowy underground maze.
The unique art style and enveloping nature of the game mask the fact that there's not a lot of discernible story. There are a few clues - Discord smirks at you before the game launches, and Celestia greets you with Smarty Pants after the game's conclusion, but overall, the plot is indecipherable.
However, I can't really fault a chaos-themed game for confusing me. I won't spoil the penultimate scene with a screenshot - rather, I'll leave you with the knowledge that I found it awesome and that it borders on creepypasta.
Lots of insanity, and then... this. Well, that was anti-climactic - perhaps there's a secret ending?
The game might have begun to bore me had it dragged on longer - however, it was short enough that the mechanics remained fun. Aside from using your lantern to prevent Twilight from falling into numerous pits, variety was found in moving glowing balls and platforms to solve puzzles within the cave.
Overall, I think this game could go far if expanded - there's certainly a lot of unique potential here. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for creepypasta. Either way, it's quick and certainly worth playing!
Xtux's note: despite the author's claims you can run this game on Mac OS X by downloading the latest version of Java from http://java.com/en/download/mac_download.jsp and not through the Software Update utility.

Sunset Defender
Man, four whole days without a post? This needs to be remedied, stat! Fortunately, Amethyst Air has just the thing. This little game was created for My Little Game Jam, but missed the deadline by a couple of hours. Help Cadence and Shining Armor defend Equestria from changeling missiles, chain reaction-style!
Letting a couple of locations be destroyed at the beginning proves to be the most effective strategy, as you can then focus your fire on the last remaining area. Waiting to click until the missiles are close to impact is a quick way to clear the board, but a little risky - if you miss, you're doomed. I couldn't get past level 13... if you beat me, feel free to disparage my skills in the comments!

My Little Game Jam Open For Voting

My Little Game Jam has begun!
Why are you reading this? You're already behind! Yes, the first round of My Little Game Jam started four hours ago! You've only got until this weekend ends (midnight Sunday to Monday UTC, or 4:00 PM Pacific Time on the 7th, for all my Seattle bronies) to complete your game. It's certainly not too late to start - but you must have your chaos-themed My Little Pony fangame completed and submitted by the deadline. Here are the rules, shamelessly copied from their front page:
- All assets and game logic must be created during the weekend of competition.
- The contest is individuals only. You have to work alone.
- The game must follow the theme announced at the beginning of the competition (chaos).
- Code and assets must be open-sourced and added to the submission.
Caught flat-footed? Never fear: you may miss the contest, but any 48 hours is a perfectly good time to make a pony fangame in my book. I'm thoroughly jazzed to see what you guys come up with, and I'm certainly looking forward to raving about the winners come next week!

My Little Game Jam Date Announcement + Theme Voting!
Earlier this month we posted about about this upcoming event called My Little Game Jam, a 2 day game-creation competition. Back then we had no idea as to when this was taking place, but now with the release of the team's new, sexier website website we can now confirm that the event will be taking place on October 5th at 23:59 UTC. Theme voting is also up, so if you want to help decide what the games must be about then you can do so over at http://www.mylittlegamejam.com/themes/. You can also suggest new themes if you'd like, but try and not go overboard like you guys did with that silly Dub the Dew contest. After all, who would want to play (or make!) a My Little Pony fangame about Fred Durst Society of the Humanities and Arts, eh?
And no, I am not wishing luck to the hopeful contestants, as I trust that they won't need luck. Our fandom has some very talented developers, you know!

My Little Game Jam
One of the more unfortunate aspects of my being given control over the site was that I could not afford to hold game development contests like we used to. Some of our fandom's most well-known fangames were spawned during those contests such as Story of the Blanks during our Creepypasta Game Contest, and Super Filly Adventure during the Brony Day Terraria Giveaway (although it seems that silly ol' Strawberry Spice forgot to give the winner his prize). The newly-spawned My Little Game Jam is a similar contest and to enter one must create an entire game by yourself within 48 hours. Sounds easy, no? Not so fast, bucko. The game also has to be created entirely from scratch, so you have to draw all the sprites, make all the music and program all the stuff by yourself. Lovely, eh?
Of course we can't wait to see what you guys will make during this contest, but before entering we would advise that you visit the contest's website at http://www.mylittlegamejam.com/ and check out all the details first, just so that you don't accidentally break any rules in your entry.

Brony Day Terraria Giveaway! Deadline Change!
Me and a BUNCH of other sites are getting together and hosing 7 different contests for 7 copies of Terraria!
You can find the post on EqD here: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/07/brony-day-2015-festivites-around.html
So here is my contest:
16-Bit Game Contest
Contest Details:
Make an 16-bit styled game with ponies!
Rules:
1. Sprites MUST be 16-bit (or less)
2. The music can be anything, it doesn't have to be 16-bit, though it would fit best.
3. The deadline is September 15th (As of now, is still subject to change).
4. Send the finished game to strawberryspice@ymail.com
5. The title of the email should be "Game Contest"
6. You should include the author of the game, and preferably sources to your materials.
Due to some confusion, only the sprites have to be 16-bit styled. It doesn't matter what you use to make it as long as it looks 16-bit.
Have those games come right to me! If you want, a good source to 16-bit pony sprites is the Desktop Ponies program.
Happy Brony Day!

Creepypasta Game Contest!
CONTEST IS OVER
Thanks to everypony who participated, the winner has been decided as Donitz with Story of the Blanks.
I will be linking the EqG article as soon as I finish it.
This month's contest will be to create the creepiest creepypasta pony game that you can. Also, I HAVE decided that I will hold monthly contests, each will likely have the same $10 game on steam prize, but I might mix things up some months.
Here are the rules for the contest:
-Your entry must be a game. It can have as many cutscenes and be as long as you want, but you have to be able to PLAY it
-Your entry must be completely My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic related
-No porn (unless it's of me, of course *sexy pose*)
-Blood is allowed, but no excessive gore.
-You are allowed to program this in ANY LANGUAGE YOU DESIRE. As long as I can play it, it makes no difference what you use to program it
-Screamers are allowed, but be careful, they're not really as 'scary' as much as they are 'startling', so you may not win with just a screamer
-No file altering games, the first Luna Game may have had that, but that's not the kind of scary I'm looking for.
-Please try to get permission to use the things you use
-One entry per person
The prize for this contest will be any game on Steam that is under $10
Here is a link to Games under $10
When you have the game completed, please submit it to me at strawberryspice@ymail.com
The message title should be 'Game Contest'
In the email you should provide the link to the game, the creator name, and any links to images or sounds you used.

This World of Warcraft story was done very well, I enjoyed the writing style, and it successfully captured both the feeling of MLP: FiM, AND The realm of Azeroth. It was funny, had some action, great story, original (Especially that last part), and was just in general a really great read! I HIGHLY suggest reading it, you'll soon figure out why it won.Runner Up (Second Place):
VR Pony Fun
By Rex Ivan
Author's Description: Twilight invites her friends over to play with a new device capable of magically sending them into various video games.
This story was a short, yet very funny parody of a handful of games. It was well written, and it gave me a good laugh. I really suggest reading it, it's great!
Thank you all so much for entering the contest! I'm really sorry if you didn't win, but this was such a hard decision! You were all such great writers with amazing stories, so don't give up! Continue writing, and maybe when I have another story contest, you can enter again!

Equestria Gaming Art Contest
Alright, so here is July's Contest! This one will be a tad different than the last two. This time, it's an art contest! Now, for the specifics. The picture has to relate to, in some way, this website (Equestria Gaming), and be video game related. It can be pretty much anything, as long as you find some way to plop this in it. I would suggest drawing an image about Ponies and Video games, then putting the EqG thing in somehow last minute (like, lets say you make a cool Fallout picture, and just plop something Equestria Gaming on a billboard, or on a tiny candy wrapper somewhere, or a television, or a book).
Anyway, here are the official rules:
-Must be an image. (derp de derp)
-Must have ponies (Can be ponies, or human versions of them)
-Steven Magnet and Spike count as ponies
-Must have SOMETHING related to Equestria Gaming in it
-I am related to Equestria Gaming
-Must be related to video games somehow
-Keep at appropriate guys, porn won't be counted as an entry, and stay away from excessive gore.
-One entry per person
-The drawing can be a sketch, scan, fully completed digital image, hell it can even be drawn on a napkin if you want!
-You cannot use an already created image
-I had Strawberry Oatmeal for breakfast this morning. It was good.
The prize for this contest will be any game on Steam that is under $10 :D
Here is a link to Games under $10
When you have the story completed, please submit it to me at strawberryspice@ymail.com
The message title should be 'Art Contest'
In the email you should provide the link to the image, author name, and other information you want me to know about it.

My Little Game Dev Marathon
The friendly folks over at the My Little Game Dev forums figured that they should hold their own game development marathon, and unlike the more well-known My Little Game Jam this event lasts for two whole weeks starting today, giving you plenty of time to work on your dream fangame. There isn't a required theme in this event: you just need to show up with a completed game by the end of the event that does not feature R34 (although creepypasta is allowed, thankfully). Shame I probably won't have my pet project fangame finished in time...ah well, at least it should be out sometime this year.
Want more details on the contest? You can find them here, and once you've created a game you can submit it to this thread: http://www.mylittlegamedev.com/thread-768.html. Have fun!

MLP:FiM Flash Game Story Contest
CONTEST IS OVER
Fillies and Gentleponies,
The development team of MLP:FiM The Flash Game is holding a story contest for their game. The main goal is for some pony to create an interesting storyline that will fuel the actual game, it needs to be detailed and long enough so the game can be built upon it.
[ The Game ]
MLP:FiM The Flash Game is a platformer style game. It will have large multiple levels with mini bosses and of course at the end, the final boss. Think Megaman or Sonic the Hedgehog style games. The game will feature unlockable characters which will be used to access areas in levels that you could not access before to advance in levels. Each character will be unlocked after defeating one of the mini bosses. So its a cross between adventure and puzzle solving.
[ Rules ]
1. No Grimdark.
2. No Shipping.
3. Primary gameplay must focus around the main ponies, not including Trixie, BonBon, Lyra, Spike, etc.
4. It must remain completely in line with what you could imagine actually happening in the show.
5. Stories are not to be posted anywhere.
The reason we do not want the stories to be posted anywhere is so the mystery of the game is kept a secret to the general public. Otherwise if you know the story beforehand, its not as fun. Stories will be judged by the development team and the author will be kept unknown to them until a winner is elected.
All Submissions are due May 15st, @ 11:59pm EST.
E-Mail your story to PostMaster@DerpyHooves.com
Subject: MLPFiM Flash Game Story Contest
Development Site: http://www.derpyhooves.com/mlpflash/
We are also trying to spread the word far and wide, so tell your friends!
