Pinkie's Hyperactive Chat is Shutting Down

Due to a lot of its moderators losing interest and real life getting in the way of development, the current owner of Pinkie's Hyperactive Chat has decided to pull the plug on his web-based MMO by the end of the week, much to the chagrin of its active playerbase. It's quite a shame, I know, but at least Lordcerii has the decency to wait until sometime around Friday evening to shut it down, giving players a chance to exchange contact information so they can keep in touch after the end if they so desire.

The original announcement can be found here.

To the best of my knowledge this will leave Ponyplace as the fandom's only active MMO, although opinions on its overall quality are mixed. Not sure if >CLOP counts as a MMO either...

Pony Joust

Ok, I know it's tricky to stay angry at Rainbow Dash after this morning's episode - but in the season premiere, she knocked best pony flying in a jousting match. That sort of behavior is inexcusable.

Thanks to NutcaseNightmare, creator of Pony Wings, now you can make her pay! Um... if that's alright by you. You could also get knocked repeatedly in the mud. Engage in the sport of pegasi champions in this quick, sleek pony jousting game.

Gravity Pony

Happy U.S. Thanksgiving, everypony! Regardless of where you live, November's as good a time as any to eat good food and play pony video games. Because that's what this holiday is for... right?

Anyhow, Zilven Sparkle's whipped up a gravity-based pony minigame to keep you occupied. Help Twilight master gravity spells, and try to avoid falling to your doom for as long as possible. The game appears to use the same animation as the upcoming Super Smash Ponies, and looks great in practice. If you've got .exe download problems, the HTML5 version can be found here, although lag and graphical issues are to be expected.

Pony Wings

Pony Wings(by NutcaseNightmare)
Link to EqG Arcade page.
Wow, a Scootaloo game!  She's one of my favorite characters and rarely gets recognized by fans outside of comparisons to flightless birds, so it's really nice to see a game based around her!  This one in particular is based on a fairly popular iOS game called Tiny Wings, which is about...a bird who has trouble flying.  Oh.  I see what you did there, NutcaseNightmare.  But I'm going to reserve my judgment on the rest of the game until after the break.

This game is very simple.  It's a Runner/Score-Attack style game in which you guide Scootaloo as she rollerblades(?) through the hills of Equestria.  She has a perfectly good scooter for catching air, why does she need rollerblades?  Anyway, your goal is to go as far as possible before night falls, a time which can be counted by looking at the meter on the left or just the color of the sky.  The tools at your disposal to go the distance include the ability to speed up, launch yourself into the air by using a hill as a ramp, and collect different colored Parasprites for a speed boost.  While I do appreciate the Parasprites all being different colors rather than just one, I would have liked it more if each color had a different effect, like temporary air dash or jumping abilities.
The challenge comes in the form of timing your launches and landings so that you keep up the best speed possible in the air and on the ground.  If you land on top of a hill, you'll lose all of your attained velocity, so be sure to watch where you land.  If you keep it up, you can catch some pretty crazy air, with Scootaloo almost reaching the top of the screen.  This is great, but it would have been cooler if you could do tricks in the air like she does in the show.  But the over-the-top altitude is still entertaining.
EXTREEEME!!!!!!

There's one track of music that plays, and it's a Winter Wrap-Up instrumental cover.  It's slow and relaxing, which I'm kind of on the fence about.  On one hand, I don't really want to be serenaded when I'm trying to rack up a good score.  On the other hand, Robot Unicorn Attack(my personal all-time favorite flash game) has proven that a song doesn't have to be conventional to succeed in identifying with the game.  And considering you're not being attacked by any foes or racing against other players(just rollerblading across some hills), the calm melody does make a bit of sense.

The one major complaint I have is the lack of an online leaderboard system.  With these kinds of games, it's great not only to compare your score against your previous ones, but also to those of other players.  Add that and a few other minor things(a greater variety of powerups, making Scootaloo actually ride a SCOOTER), and this game would have won me over completely.

Considering the game's brevity, there's not much more I can say.  It does its job well as an addictive, iPhone style game, and there's a good chance I'll return to it sometime when I have time to kill.

Rating: 8/10

Twilight Sparkle RPG (Working title) Video Demo and Public Alpha 1.0

This video is the third in the series chronicling the development of Fluttershy77's sandbox pony rpg. Although a ways from publication, the project shows promise - future development plans include a fully playable map of Equestria! Hit up the video above, and give the alpha a play to get a feel for the project. Then, if you're interested, give him a shout - he's on the lookout for spriters.

Beta: My Little Miner: Disturbance is Magic

My Little Miner: Disturbance is Magic (Beta)

Recently we posted about a fangame with the title My Little Miner: Disturbance is Magic that seemed to be centered around digging around for gems in a volcano. The creator said that he was releasing a beta soon, and it turns out that by "soon" he meant 4 four days later. So if you're interested in trying out this Flash/HTML5 fangame then head on over to http://mlm.blitzspace.com/ and give it a play. He also wants feedback on his game's beta so if you have any then send him an email over at BlitzProg@BlitzSpace.com.

Have fun!

My Little Miner: Disturbance is Magic

Recently we have been seeing an increasing number of game remakes with ponies added to them such as Megapony & Silent Ponyville, and continuing the trend comes My Little Miner: Disturbance is Magic which appears to be a remake of the iOS game Miner Disturbance. Pretty much it's centered around digging for gems under a volcano with a pony for a partner and will apparently use either Flash or HTML5 depending on what your browser supports (I prefer the latter). Pretty neat, eh? It'd be really great if we could include this game on the Arcade come release day, but we can't guarantee anything since in the end it is all up to whether the developers want their game included on the Arcade or not.

Pinkie's Hyperactive Chat

Or on the Equestria Gaming Arcade

Fan MMOs are sort of a rarity, especially when they are released in quick succession. It wasn't too long ago that MLP:Online was released, and even then it was just the single player mode. And all of a sudden out of the blue pops a brand spanking-new pony MMO that nopony has ever heard of and takes the crown for the first playable MLP MMO (and one of the first ever HTML5 MMO games). Mind you it's still in an early alpha state and doesn't have all the features of the final product (it lacks different hairstyles and races), but it's still quite worth playing already.

Why not give it a try, eh?

The Adventures of Pinkie Pie

The Adventures of Pinkie Pie

Most of the web games that we receive on Equestria Gaming are Adobe Flash, and although we do get the occasional Unity game I have noticed that HTML5 games are relatively rare. This is probably because of the somewhat steeper learning curve, the lack of full-featured engines (libraries, on the other hand, are in no short suppy), and the fact that usually you need your own web host to make it publicly available. So far this is only the second HTML5 game we have came across on our website, with the first being Pony Wings, and only the former was in a complete state. For indeed, The Adventures of Pinkie Pie is still in alpha and only contains a couple unfinished stages, but it seems rather promising and every game deserves a chance, right?

In case you're interested in following the game's development they have a website over at http://pinkamena.tripod.com/, and our arcade recently added the game if you want to check it out every once in a while and see if there's any new content.

New Cloudsdale Revision

Cloudsdale
Our partners over at Cloudsdale, an up-and coming brony social network, recently released a major revision to their site, which has now left beta and is open for everybody to use. From what I've experienced of it, Cloudsdale is a very unique network, quite different from sites like Facebook or Twitter. It's user base is growing steadily, and it's definitely worth checking out. Have some copypasta after the break.

Cloudsdale has just left beta and is now publicly available for everypony to use. The application is a unique take on the social network, designed specifically for the Brony community. While most sites created with this purpose in mind have been clones of other popular social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and others, Cloudsdale takes a different route and offers a completely different experience, wrapped up in a beautiful package. Cloudsdale uses the very latest web technologies and is built with  a combination of the the powerful Ruby on Rails & Node.js frameworks to ensure that it's users get the best experience possible, with new features being added on a regular basis.

We offer features like

A beautiful, easy to understand design.
Support for mobile, with native iOS and Android apps coming soon.
Live chatting with other users.
Different "Clouds" for discussion of various topics.
Built with the latest and greatest web technologies.
And much more.

Presenting Equestria Gaming's Online Arcade!

At Equestria Gaming we pride ourselves on being the #1 source for My Little Pony fangames (at least, we hope so!). But as you might have noticed, lately we've slowed down somewhat (not in speed, we're highly optimized when it comes to speed and SEO). Was the current generation of authors going the way of Strawberry Spice? Nope! We've just been preparing something really awesome that we hope you all enjoy.

Introducting the Equestria Gaming Arcade, a place where you can access all of your favourite online MLP fangames in one easy website, with even more on the way! We have classics such as Story of the Blanks, Super Filly Adventure, along with enjoyable minigames like Catch the Scootaloos, Derpy Hooves sweet dreams, and the ultimate cure for boredom, Waiting is Magic! Pretty much any browser-based game is supported, so if you have any Adobe Flash, HTML5, Javascript or Unity3D games then feel free to submit them to us.

Anyhow, the arcade is located at http://arcade.equestriagaming.com/, and currently features 8 games (more are in the pipeline!). The features are not completely final yet either, we plan on adding a ratings system in the near future and maybe some extra eyecandy for those with modren browsers. Enjoy!

Game: MLP Matching Is Magic

Some games grab you with graphics and a flashy intro, and others gradually grow on you until you're hooked. Surprisingly, I found MLP: Matching Is Magic to be the latter. The game revolves around a very simple concept: assemble pony-containing blocks into groups of three or more to eliminate them, a la Shariki (Bejeweled).

The twist is that there's no time constraint - rather, the number of pony types on the board increases based upon your previous matches until the rather easy game becomes an impossible one. Whenever you match a group of three for the first time, a block containing a new pony appears in its place, until you've worked your way through the Mane Six and beyond!

Angry Ponies

Twilight Sparkle flinging herself at a chubby little Queen Chrysalis.
Angry Ponies

Now we don't normally give mods a separate post here on Equestria Gaming, but this is somewhat of an exception. After all, who doesn't want to fling chubby little ponies at equally chubby changeling queens in their wee fortresses? This mod lets you do just that, and only a simple Google Chrome/Firefox plugin is needed to play (sorry users of other browsers!). It is still a work in progress, but I'm sure that you'll enjoy it anyways. So hit up the link above and take a look at the mod, then perhaps give it a try, ok?

Also, this isn't the first fandom that has made an Angry Birds-type game. The Portal fandom also did it with Aperture Birds, which you can find at http://www.moddb.com/games/aperture-birds and is far better in my personal opinion.

Doli Incapax: Horse Lawyer

With the popularity of the Phoenix Wright series (and the availability of case creators based on the games), it's no surprise that we've seen quite a few projects centered on combining the concept with My Little Pony. Among those is this little gem from Zoo977. Doli Incapax: Horse Lawyer is a charming one-case game made with one of the countless case creators, and like any good game of its type, the writing is top-notch. It's a game filled with OCs (in fact, outside of a small role from Rarity, no official ponies appear in the whole thing), but the characters are explored in a depth that rivals the games Horse Lawyer draws its inspiration from, and the game itself is equally enthralling.

I'll probably be getting into a more in-depth review later when I have the time, but there's another story-centric game sitting in the submission box, as well as a few personal projects of mine to get to, so you'll have to take my word for it that the game is definitely worth the couple of hours of entertainment it gives you.

Pinkie's Balloon Trip

Considering what's plastered across her flanks, putting Pinkie Pie in a game about balloons seems like a no-brainer. This game from Brian Bullock (which is listed as a beta, despite feeling quite complete) is basically a clone of the NES's Balloon Trip, but with ponies and an online scoreboard. The latter does wonders for replayability of the game, even if the mechanics of lower scores on a name overriding older, higher scores is a bit irritating. Regardless, the game is well-built for a clone game, and like the original, is a fantastic way to spend a few moments if you don't mind dying a lot.
