Breach of Harmony

Not too long ago somebody decided that what the My Little Pony fan community really needed the most was an online PvP arena game, and thus Breach of Harmony was born. It features everything you'd expect from this type of game: multiple player classes, gratuitous amounts of colourful horses and an unintentionally cheesy plot involving a secret society of rich ponies who apparently get a kick out of paying the lower classes to fight each other. I could dissect it further based on the preview video, but since it's still in the pre-alpha stage I shall refrain from doing so for the time being (given that most of the problems I have with it are related to the animations and will most likely be resolved in the near future).

You can find more detailed information about the game at breachofharmony.com.

...I'm just going to pre-emptively tag all newer Unity games on here as "multiplatform", since a developer using it would be foolish to not export OS X and Linux binaries these days.

Pony Tactics: Salvation

Pony Tactics: Salvation
For some reason it seems that nearly all of the of non-Flash My Little Pony fangames are RPGs, and most of which are announced are never heard from again and forgotten. This is probably due to the fact that making a decent RPG takes a lot of time and effort, which often proves to be too much for many developers to handle. A small team calling themselves "Slammin' is Jammin'" have recently announced their upcoming RPG and released a promotional video that shows off some interesting concept art and...less than impressive gameplay (although to be fair the game is still in the pre-alpha stages, so that is to be expected).

Will Pony Tactics: Salvation ever be released? I have no idea, but you can find their promo video and some more information on the game after the break.

From the information that has been given out so far Pony Tactics: Salvation will be a roleplaying game with a very heavy focus on tactics (obviously), taking place soon after Discord came to power. The player controls a herd of common villagers who decided to flee from the Lord of Chaos and find a better place to live, while beating the crap outta various giant monsters along the way. Celestia and Luna's origin story also plays a major part in the story, as does the discovery of the elements of harmony.

According to Slammin' "Unlike most tactics RPGs Salvation does not have a classic jobs system. Instead each unit falls uniquely into a role, with skills and abilities maintained by the story instead of jobs/levels. Smart uses of a team's abilities and items is rewarded, as health/mana is not fully replenished after each battle." I may be no veteran when it comes to tactical RPGs but that does sound kind of interesting to me, although how the final product shall turn out is yet to be seen.

The game is being made in Unity3D, and due to the fact that they're not listing Linux as a platform I'm going to assume that they are not using Unity 4. The sprites used in the trailer appear to be only temporary placeholders (thank God), and due to some of listed positions on the "join our crew" page it appears that the ponies themselves will be drawn as 2D sprites in contrast to the 3D world. This is quite unlike most other pony RPGs which either rely exclusively on sprites such as The Lost Kingdom or use only 3D models like Questria; the former of which is far more common.

Any thoughts? Leave them in the comments!

No Guns in Canterlot

There's a distinct lack of first person shooters in the pony fandom, and for good reason: colourful horses just aren't as fun when you can't see the ones you're playing as. However, that hasn't stopped Jach (you might be familiar with some of his previous works, such as A World You Should Not Know), who decided to switch from the Blender Game Engine to Unity3D and make a game about shooting changelings with guns, because apparently magic missiles aren't good enough for some reason. Players also have the choice of playing as Princess Celestia, Luna, Cadance and Shining Armor, each with their own weapons and magical abilities, which offers some more variety I guess.

No word on when the project will eventually be released, although Jach claims he'll set up a blog for it in the near future with development updates.

This was the closest thing to a SFW Princess Shining Armor picture that I could find.

Horse Game Update 2

Horse Game

Even if the Horse Game is pretty much a proof of concept demo, it's still rather fun, especially now that the developers have added bots and made some improvements to its innovative spell-crafting system, among other things. It may be nowhere near ready for a review yet, sure, but the project is rather promising and I'd advise that you folks keep an eye on it for the near future, and maybe even volunteer to help out if you have any coding or 3D modelling skills.

Interested in giving this fabulous update a spin? Then download the Horse Game at http://horsegame.ca/.

Meanwhile, Ponykart's C++ translation chugs along. I should put up a full post for these guys sometime.

(You can check out the Ponykart revival Google Group at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ponykart, and the project website at http://ponykart.org/)

Temno Moves to Unity

TEMNO

Multimedia Fusion 2 gets kind of a bad rap, and after spending over a year developing Temno with it Lexo Astonov grew sick of its quirks and decided he was just going to switch over to Unity. This provides several benefits, such as support for higher resolutions and native OS X/Linux binaries, along with the possibility of an Android app. Temno is also no longer a solo project; it is now being developed by a Czechoslovakian indie team currently known as Little Bit Interactive, which should help speed up development a tad (even if the game only features original characters now, to protect it from receiving a Cease & Desist order).

I'm still not sure what to think about OC-only fangames, to be honest, especially since the last one I encountered wasn't free.

Oh yeah, and some girl decided to draw an OC for me, although she hasn't coloured it yet or uploaded a high-rez picture. You folks like it?

Reminder: Legends of Equestria is Livestreaming

Event 24-hour livestream event! reminder
Legends of Equestria Livestream

In case you've already forgotten (in which case you should be ashamed of yourself, as we only posted about it 3 days ago), the Legends of Equestria team is livestreaming right now, and will continue to do so until tomorrow at noon EDT. They'll be making stuff live in front of an audience, and cover up their extended breaks with panels on various things related to their upcoming game.

Also, for some reason they moved the event to a different channel, so head on over to http://www.livestream.com/nutsonclark to watch it.

Guess Who's Livestreaming This Weekend?

If you've been following Equestria Gaming over the past couple months/years, this banner should probably tell you all you need to know, but if you haven't figured it out yet Legends of Equestria is holding yet another 24 hour livestream, in which they will be extra productive in order to please the general public and hold several panels which may or may not interest you. The event will run from the 2nd of November at 12 noon EDT for a full 24 hours until the 3rd at 12 noon. And before you ask, the stream will be held at http://www.livestream.com/legends_of_equestria.

You can find a full schedule below the break.

Luna Vs. Fun

                                                      Play it Here!

"Huzzah!  How many points do I receive?"  If you watched the most recent episode of Season 2, then you most likely remember the scene where Luna plays a traditional Nightmare Night spider-throwing game that she mistakenly calls "the fun."  A Brony dream team consisting of Deviantart legend Egophiliac, popular remixer NotACleverPony, and game designer Texel has come together to create a short flash game based on this scene.   You have to download an application called Unityplayer off of the link to play it, but the file is small and painless.   The gameplay is simple: by holding down the mouse, you change how far you throw a spider.  There's not enough to say about this to constitute a review, but I will say it's a fun little diversion.  Also, look close and you may see a cameo or two in the spiders....

Ponyvasion

Next up from My Little Game Jam is...well, I'm not exactly sure how to describe Ponyvasion to be honest. According to the game's description the player is tasked to "Defend Unicorn-land against the invading pony's", and by that they mean "Kill Them All!". You are then given a variety of weapons that can be swapped with the keys 1-4 and thrown right into the thick of things. Shooting the multicoloured ponies increases your score, while hitting the fluffy white unicorns decreases it. In my opinino it is one of the worst fangames that we have ever come across, although as the case may be it might just be a trollgame. Either way you can give it a shot if you like, but don't expect to come back for more.

Questria Video Update

Questria

The Questria team has released a rather short video update for their game, showcasing the new weapons system and a player character mindlessly hacking away at a poor changeling. Having ponies carry weapons in their mouths looks...different from what most of us are used to, although hopefully unicorns will be able to wield them with their magic. The fact that it supports Mac OS X and possibly Linux will be a huge plus for many of our readers (myself included), and if the team decides to invest in the pro version of Unity3D they could utilize some rather interesting postprocessing effects such as SSAO and depth of field effects for those with more powerful computers.

What do you think of Questria so far, eh? Let us know in the comments!

MoonLight game looking for team members

That video thumbnail may be confusing, but rest assured the topic of the video is indeed ponies. The team working on a game called MoonLight are looking for new members to help in the making of the game. Below the break I will put the details as to what they're looking for right now.

First of all, what kind of video game is this? Well, the director of the game has defined it as 2.5D action-adventure platformer that will focus on exploration, reflexes and player intelligence. It is being made in the Unity 3D engine.

Now, since the list of things they're looking for is quite large, I'm only going to mention some of them, but you can find the whole list as well as a lot more information about the game Right Here.

The main things they are searching for right now are concept artists and sprite animators.

The team is looking for one or two more writers. They want the story to be engaging to the player, a funny and endearing tale for them to explore.

They're looking for programmers that are efficient and fluent in Unity 3D's various languages, especially those with knowledge of 2.5D platforming and related subjects.

And they're also looking for 3D modelers fluent in designing environments, and some specific creatures.

These are only a few of the things they're looking for. They're also looking for musicians and sound effect creators, as well as even playtesters, so if you think there's something you can contribute to the game and you want to be a part of it, go ahead and contact the creator at moonswirly@gmail.com.

Questing
Plenty of NPCs (Non-Player Characters) need help with their tasks! Some give out special prizes if you lend them a helping hoof!

Go up to any NPC, right click, and select "Talk." NPCs have a "..." over their name.

Listen to what they have to say, and be sure to follow their instructions in order to move on in the quest.

At the end, you might get a reward for your kindness!

Battling
Watch out when going to the Evershade Forest! It's home to some scary monsters!

In order to defend yourself against the creatures you'll encounter, try using your special combat abilities!

Earth Ponies have Seismic Buck and Rough Terrain, Unicorns have Rainbow Fields and Magical Arrow, and Pegasi have Dual Cyclone and Gale! All three races have Ground Pound.

When ready, select a creature, a target reticule should appear. Attack the mob by getting in their range and selecting your skill.

When the enemy's health gets to zero, they'll faint! Don't worry though, I'm sure they can just walk it off.

Parties
If you want to form a party with other players, you can right-click them and add them to your party!

Parties are useful for going out and exploring. You never know when you might run into monsters, and there is always safety in numbers!

Trading
Do you have an interesting item that you'd like to give to a friend? Well, you can trade them!

Simply right click on your friend and hit "Trade." The other pony needs to accept your trade for it to continue.

Once accepted, you'll see a screen. Left click and add the item to the trading menu.

When both players are satisfied with the trade, they both must hit "Ready." When both players hit "Ready," a "Done" button will appear. Once both players hit the "Done" button, the trade will be completed.

Stuck Somewhere?
Have no fear! No need to call the moderators! Simply type /stuck or unstuck me and you will be moved to the starting point of the map. (This will not work if you are in combat.)
I may or may not be around the servers during the weekend. If I am, I'll be romping around as Jalapeño Billy if anyone's interested in stalking me or goofing off. See you guys there, maybe!

Play Legends of Equestria in August

Since I'm guessing that most of you people have already participated in one of Legends of Equestria's many open server weekends and pretty much know what to expect, there's not much for me to say aside from that it'll begin at 12:01 AM EST on August 8th and end at 11:59 PM on the 10th, and that you will need an account on their forums in order to participate in the usual mixture of general chat, roleplay, and enterprising young chaps finding increasingly convoluted ways to leave the confines of the map. Not the sort of thing that I usually enjoy, but it's not like I really have much for friends to play LoE with, so I usually just run around as a lowly mudpony and quit shortly after reaching that one really high spot just outside the lawyer-friendly city of Cantermore.

In case you wish to read the original announcement for whatever reason, you may do so at http://forum.legendsofequestria.com/index.php?topic=11989.0

Presenting Equestria Gaming's Online Arcade!

At Equestria Gaming we pride ourselves on being the #1 source for My Little Pony fangames (at least, we hope so!). But as you might have noticed, lately we've slowed down somewhat (not in speed, we're highly optimized when it comes to speed and SEO). Was the current generation of authors going the way of Strawberry Spice? Nope! We've just been preparing something really awesome that we hope you all enjoy.

Introducting the Equestria Gaming Arcade, a place where you can access all of your favourite online MLP fangames in one easy website, with even more on the way! We have classics such as Story of the Blanks, Super Filly Adventure, along with enjoyable minigames like Catch the Scootaloos, Derpy Hooves sweet dreams, and the ultimate cure for boredom, Waiting is Magic! Pretty much any browser-based game is supported, so if you have any Adobe Flash, HTML5, Javascript or Unity3D games then feel free to submit them to us.

Anyhow, the arcade is located at http://arcade.equestriagaming.com/, and currently features 8 games (more are in the pipeline!). The features are not completely final yet either, we plan on adding a ratings system in the near future and maybe some extra eyecandy for those with modren browsers. Enjoy!

Shattered Limits

Just now, I'll bet you were sitting there, all blue, waiting for some high-speed, log-jumping, boulder-evading, Temple-Run-style 3D pony action. If you weren't, you should have been. Regardless, that's what you get.

Shattered Limits is a simple, addictive dodge-the-obstacle type game set in an endless world of boulders, thorns, and other obstacles. Run your customizable pony avatar until he or she drops, and then do it again, and again, and again...

The download's a little slow, but the game's worth your while! Have at it.

Fallout Equestria: the Unblinking

Now that The Overmare Studios has released this new Fallout: Equestria preview, I can kind of understand why their previous videos used a first-person perspective: their current pony model looks surprisingly creepy when animated, especially with those large, unblinking eyes. Come to think of it, it feels like there's something a bit off with almost all of the animations, although I can't quite lay my finger on it. Perhaps it's just because the animations are incomplete, or maybe this is actually a surreal horror game and Littlepip is an android who happens to fall into the uncanny valley. It's already scarier than Dead Space, so why stop there when you can go all the way down?

They're also recruiting, and since I don't feel like pasting their ad below the break this time you can read about their requirements at http://theovermare.com/blog/2014/04/flow-of-animations.

I really need to install a feed reader on Windows so I don't fall behind when it comes to picking up news.

Legends of Equestria Releases Post-Babscon Trailer

For various reasons, the Legends of Equestria development team decided to release a Babscon trailer showcasing the game minus the apparently quite awesome dragon invasion they held near the open server weekend's end, which I find somewhat disappointing. Ah well, at least it's a nice preview for those of you who want a sample of the LoE experience without waiting for another open server weekend or the lines of people sitting on that one rooftop and general goofiness typically found in private servers, the latter of which I wouldn't consider a downside to visiting a private server at all.

And on another note, tux3 released his LoE private server build on GitHub a couple days ago, which you can grab at https://github.com/tux3/LoE-PrivateServer/releases for whenever those go live.

This is where the screencaps of the dragon invasion would be if I still remembered where they were.

Today: the Beginning of Yet Another LoE Server Weekend Thing

Back in March we posted about an upcoming Legends of Equestria open server weekend from April 18 to 20, and now that the 18th has finally been reached we are pleased to announce that the event has begun on time. You can download a copy of the game here, and don't worry about login issues; apparently the team has resolved those so we probably won't have more horror stories of people literally waiting for several hours to get in.

If you aren't able to play this weekend for whatever reason, I'd suggest downloading the client anyways since Tux3 will probably release another private server for it after the event is done. We've also copypasted a guide to the game below, which you can also find at http://forum.legendsofequestria.com/index.php?topic=10677.

Horse Game Update 3

Apparently punting small animals off into the distance is all the rage these days, as the newest Horse Game video seems to focus almost exclusively on this cruel (yet totally hilarious) activity. There's also a rather nice sword and a WIP map which will probably look much more impressive in the near future once some more work has been done on it, although that's probably not their main priority right now.

Oh yeah, and the team's lead developer occasionally posts small updates on his Twitter account, which you can follow @SprakleDev.

Raycord Legends Teaser

Some might question why the pony fandom needs yet another 2D platformer when it already has a truckload of them, but this one has an art style reminiscent of the more recent Rayman games and features Discord as its protagonist, a rather intriguing decision to say the least. Hopefully it manages to meet its projected release date of "somewhere in 2014" and isn't just a glorified "scroll past pretty backgrounds" program with minimal gameplay, but eh. The fandom's pulled off some pretty ridiculous things in the past, so why not this?

In case you're wondering why this post is a couple hours late, let's just say that I was somewhat distracted by one Fluffy Wolf Vinyl.
