Screenshot of an Official MLP Flash Game

Screenshot

Apparently this is a screenshot of an official My Little Pony flash game from their Facebook page. A year ago I would have been squeeing over this like my sisters over an autograph One Direction, but to be honest I must say that it looks kind of...dull. Sure it's always nice to have official games, but we already have an overload of cloud dodgers and the lack of a unified art style disturbs me. Of course I'll save most of my criticism and praise (hopefully) for the final product, but I do hope that this will be as good as Adventure Ponies, don't you? Speaking of which it would be interesting if we were able to put Adventure Ponies on the Arcade, although I kind of doubt that Hasbro would approve...

Super Derpy: Muffin Attack Preview

A cloud dodger... with flash animation? And it just updated? I love you guys sometimes. Somepony's caused chaos near Discord's statue, giving him just enough power to turn muffins into muffin-zombies. He's trapped the Elements of Harmony in their homes, planning to bide his time until chaos reigns and he can rule Equestria  once more. Fortunately, he hasn't accounted for Ponyville's resident muffin expert! More after the break.

All that's available right now is a development preview with a single level, but the game already looks very promising. After a beautiful scrolling-tapestry style intro vaguely reminiscent of Wind Waker, the game opens on the overcast skies outside Ponyville.

Mmmm, pretty textures...

Control Derpy Hooves as she soars through the skies, dodging muffin-zombies, flying pigs, and pies(?) while collecting cherries and muffins. The gameplay didn't blow my mind, yet - that is to say, it was fairly standard for a side-scrolling item dodger. However, the effort put into the animation, cutscenes, menus, and voice-acting was evident. I'm looking forward to more from this promising project!

Flash: Pony Creator v3 / Square Ponies / Taking Wing

If you're like me and school has just kicked into gear again, you might not have time for games which require a serious time investment. But there's always time for flash games.

Updates to generalzoi's (in)famous pony creator, pixelated madness, and more after the break!

For better or worse, the original Pony Creator has been the premier pony image resource for the artistically challenged among the brony fandom since 2011. It's third incarnation boasts a sleek new interface with sliders and arrays of accessories to add to your ponies. While the amount of possible creations has increased dramatically, so have the number of ways to fail (see above.) Have fun, but stick with simple themes and minimize accessories to keep your OC classy!

Square Ponies is ponified twist on the author's previous title Dodge N. Playing initially as one cubic Rainbow Dash, zip around the screen to collect coins while avoiding the multiplying red squares in a manner reminiscent of The World's Hardest Game.

The game's old-school interface and the ongoing difficulty of unlocking playable ponies keep the game interesting for a while, but Square Ponies is a mini-game at heart. Enjoy!

Taking Wing boasts a catchy soundtrack and smooth overall gameplay, but I personally find cloud-dodgers a bit old hat. Playing as a customizeable pegasus (a plus,) soar through the skies for as long as possible without being struck down by parasprites, rain clouds, or passing Wonderbolts!

Review:Dash

As most of you probably know I have great disdain for the cloud-dodger genre. In general you play as Rainbow Dash and dodge clouds for eternity, or at least until you hit one. Sounds boring, eh? In most cases you'd be correct, but a game by the creator of Canterlot Defender has been uncovered, and despite it's rather overused genre it seemed rather promising.

Does Dash manage to transcend its comrades and become a great sidescroller, or is it just as mediocre as the others? Find out in our review after the break!

As with every other cloud dodger to date, you control Rainbow Dash and try to avoid hitting clouds. However, unlike those other games colliding with a cloud does not result in instant death (what were those clouds made of anyway, iron?), but merely slows you down (especially cotton candy clouds). That doesn't sound too bad, except for the fact that Dash is centered around building up enough speed for a sonic rainboom in as short a time as possible. Hitting as few clouds as possible is crucial to victory, and as your speed increases so does the game's difficulty.

Dash's greatest strength is it's exhilarating sense of speed. Rainbow Dash starts out flying at a moderately slow speed, and as she flies faster and faster a bowline begins to form in front of her. Clouds whip by in a blur that is almost distractingly beautiful, and if you pay close attention you will notice that the clouds in the background are also moving, which was a nice touch. The soundtrack (composed by General Mumble) also adds a lot to the overall feel of the game, and really makes you feel like the fastest thing in Equestria once you reach the higher speeds.

So in conclusion, what did we think of Dash? Despite my hatred of cloud dodgers in general, I cannot deny that Dash is great. As a matter of fact it's probably the best one I've ever played, and the sense of speed that it gave off was like nothing else I have ever seen in this fandom. It truly feels like you are Rainbow Dash, and not a lookalike that travels at relatively low speeds and can somehow be killed by crashing into a single cloud.
8/10

Author's note: We are now using somewhat of a different system for new reviews in which the main link goes to the EqG Arcade page, and the smaller "(source)" link to the side takes you to the game's original location.

Review: Rainbow Dash's Cloud Dodging Fun

Play it Here!
PentaStudios (the guys behind hits such as Waiting is Magic) have done it yet again, releasing Rainbow Dash's Cloud Dodging Fun, a rather extreme version of the standard cloud-dodger format. It's all around a great game - very polished, and surprisingly fun and intense for such a simple format. You can find the full review after the page break...

The object of the game is simple - rack up the highest score possible by staying alive for as long as you can. Use WASD or the arrow keys to move Rainbow Dash around, dodging thousands upon thousands of clouds at high speed, and picking up powerups to boost your score, health, speed, energy, or cloud smashing ability. You can also use up the energy you've accrued to give you a boost, slow down time, or clear all the clouds from the screen.

Those clouds won't even know what hit 'em!
This game is high-octane and quite fun. The graphics, as well, are very neat and work perfectly with the gameplay. RDCDF makes use of a Rainbow Dash animation puppet from Double Rainboom, and features a soundtrack by TBC-x1x2x3, which come together to form an aesthetic and exciting final product.

Also worth mentioning is the new scoring system, which lets you know on the top of the screen as you play who is directly in front of and behind you on the leaderboard, as well as their scores, so you can keep track of your gaming supremacy. All in all, this is a simple, very fun, well made game, and for that, it gets the following grade.
