Later Today: Gaming for Good

Gaming for Good
Edit: it's over.
Just a reminder that the "Gaming for Good" thing we posted last week is coming up today at noon EST. They'll be playing games and stuff, which wouldn't be all that exciting if they weren't doing it for charity and interviewing the Legends of Equestria and Mane Six development teams. Still, in a way I'm honestly getting kind of sick of these podcasters interviewing the same fangame teams over and over again, and wish they would chat with some smaller developers (such as Bobby Schroeder or Donitz) for once, but since that's unlikely to happen anytime soon we might as well sit back and try not to get too upset over the lack of variety.

Once the event is ready you can watch it at http://events.yoursiblings.org/.

In a way, I regret scribbling those beards on the header because it resulted in me missing my one chance to see Taylor today.

Gaming for Good: A Livestream Fundraiser Thing

The kindly people in charge of Bronies for Good, along with Equestria Daily and our friends over at Derpy Hooves News (along with two of the nicer people on Everfree Network) came up with the idea to hold a "charity livestream" in which you watch people play games and throw your money at the screen to help poor African children. Yeah, I know that we don't usually post livestreams and whatnot, but it's for a good cause and they'll also be interviewing the Legends of Equestria and Mane 6 development teams about their progress so far, which is pretty neat.

If you happen to be interested, the event takes place on November 16th at noon EST, and you'll be able to watch it all at http://events.yoursibilings.org/.

Also, would it bother you folks if I posted an editorial in the near future? It won't become a regular thing, honest, but there are some things I'd like to say that I can't exactly put into a review or regular news post (but don't worry, it's still very related to fangames)...

Reminder: Legends of Equestria is Livestreaming

Event 24-hour livestream event! reminder
Legends of Equestria Livestream

In case you've already forgotten (in which case you should be ashamed of yourself, as we only posted about it 3 days ago), the Legends of Equestria team is livestreaming right now, and will continue to do so until tomorrow at noon EDT. They'll be making stuff live in front of an audience, and cover up their extended breaks with panels on various things related to their upcoming game.

Also, for some reason they moved the event to a different channel, so head on over to http://www.livestream.com/nutsonclark to watch it.

Guess Who's Livestreaming This Weekend?

If you've been following Equestria Gaming over the past couple months/years, this banner should probably tell you all you need to know, but if you haven't figured it out yet Legends of Equestria is holding yet another 24 hour livestream, in which they will be extra productive in order to please the general public and hold several panels which may or may not interest you. The event will run from the 2nd of November at 12 noon EDT for a full 24 hours until the 3rd at 12 noon. And before you ask, the stream will be held at http://www.livestream.com/legends_of_equestria.

You can find a full schedule below the break.

New Fighting is Magic Build at CG

Mane6, creators of Fighting is Magic, are doing quite a bit of stuff at Canterlot Gardens as many of you have probably heard. They have a panel, and will be livestreaming a new build of the game (with Rainbow Dash included) at the con. You can see the stream here, or on their website. Also, tomorrow they'll be hosting a massive Fighting is Magic tournament starting at 12pm, with prizes. The competition may get heated - too bad I'm not there, because I would definitely take first place (not really).

BronyCon 2013: Friday

Outside the Stable Softworks Panel
BronyCon Stream

BronyCon is off to a raring start, and thankfully there are quite a few fangame-related panels on today's schedule. First off, at 11:30 AM EDT in the Hall of Dusk there is the panel for Guild of Unicorns: A Game Project, which should be fairly interesting as it is for a fairly unknown fangame. I myself have never heard of before, but apparently the creator been interviewed on Derpy Hooves News a while back so his game is probably decent enough. Then at 4:30 PM one can see the Ponycraft: Tainted Skies panel (again in the Hall of Dusk), and at 6:00 PM one can play a build of the game in the Baltimare Arcade. Also at 6:00 PM one can find the Outside the Stable Softworks panel in the Hall of Dawn, where you can learn how to make your very own fnagame (whatever that is). Also, make sure to check out the Starlight Studios booth in the games room to check out their Project Cygnus demo.

For those of us who are unable to attend BronyCon, there's always the official livestream. Hopefully I'll be able to attend the con someday...

There's also a Ponychan panel at 4:30 PM in the Hall of Dawn, but nobody gives a hoot about Ponychan these days because it sucks.

Alternate MEW Stream

The original stream seems to have hit the limit, so have an alternate one!

MEW Game Overview and History - Livestream

Watch live streaming video from mockequestrianwars at livestream.com

Read it after the break!

Hello and Thank You!

Hello and thank you for joining us!  My name is Earth_Pony and I will be your host today, bringing you plenty of news about our exciting new game, Mock Equestrian Wars!  Before we kick off this event, however, I would like to thank our gracious hosts Enigma Sage and all of the Equestria Gaming crew for putting this together, we’re honored to be here.  If you’ve never been there before, I would highly encourage you to visit their website.  Equestria Gaming is easily the number one source for all gaming news within the Brony Community.  Thank you guys for everything you do!

Project Overview

Now, just what is Mock Equestrian Wars?  This game is technically known as a Simultaneous Turn Based Strategy MMO.  What does this mean? Essentially, gameplay is mostly composed of tactical, squad based strategy, placed in the context of a full-scale (mock) war. Each game has the capacity for hundreds of players, with two sides contesting for control of the map.  Games are expected to last up to two weeks, ending only when one side achieves victory.  Massive, player coordinated strategies will pan out, resulting in glorious victory! ...or miserable defeat.  Players must come together to achieve user-set objectives, capturing strategic points, collecting valuable resources, and waging full fledged battles against enemy squads.  Work your way up the ranks and you may find yourself in a position of leadership, becoming responsible for strategy in your local area or even, if you’ve proven yourself capable, oversee the entire battlefield operations.

Player Tiers and Roles

MEW features three tiers of play: Squad leaders, Captains and Commanders.  Each tier comes with its own set of responsibilities and roles.  In addition, leadership roles are given only to the individuals who have demonstrated good leadership ability and have earned the respect of their peers.  Now for the specifics of the three tiers:

Starting with squads, these are the players responsible for working with one another to accomplish objectives and consist of a single player plus up to 9 controllable units.  Squads are frequently pitted against enemy squads when in skirmishes, and such encounters make up the majority of the game.

Next up are the Captains.  These players control only their own pony, but also command up to 10 nearby squads.  Captains will be able to use skills on the battle map to do damage to enemy squads or to aid allied squads through various means.

Finally we have the Commanders, which are the top tier of leadership in the mock war environment.  Each side will have only three of these high ranking officers, whose responsibilities include the management and coordination of the entire war effort.  Usually operating within buildings, Commanders issue orders to Captains regarding construction, resource disbursement, battle tactics, and game strategy, but can also use their royal guard squad to go out in the field for combat purposes, providing a powerful stat boost to nearby allies.

Victory Conditions

There are three ways in which victory can be achieved in Mock Equestrian Wars.  The first of such methods would be the defeat of two of the enemy Commanders.  This may prove a difficult feat, however, as Commanders are extremely well guarded and have many resources at their disposal.  Another method would be to destroy the opponent's Headquarters.  The final path to victory would be the conquest of a significant portion of the world map, achieved through gaining control of the various flags and outposts spread throughout the landscape.  All three methods offer serious challenge and require team coordination and organization to achieve victory.

Project History
Now, I am aware that our project is a bit “out-of-the-blue” for some of you, so let me share with you the story of how our project came to be.  Mock Equestrian Wars stems out of a discussion question posted to Equestria Daily back in early January.  The question pertained to what role you (the reader) would like to take were you transformed into a pony and thrown into a giant, full-scale equestrian war.  The question was very popular, as evidenced by the hundreds of individual comments and responses which followed the post.  Among the interested was Ryex, our project leader, who would organize a brainstorm a few days later to explore the possibility of making a game out of the “Equestrian War” concept.

MLP:Online Prepares for Pon-E3

MLP: Online

MLP:Online's Announcement

With Pon-E3 coming up within a few short days our friends have been making preparations for their part in the event. However according to this thread it caught the MLP:Online team somewhat off-guard, as they just released the beta version of Episode 1 and didn't have too much for new content to show. In their desperate scramble to find something to do somepony suggested that they have a Q&Neigh session, as well as a discussion about interesting topics somewhat related to the game. This might sound kind of boring, but the thing is that all questions will be from the community and you can submit one yourself! Just go onto Twitter, ask @MLPOnline something and your question could be answered on their Livestream (I dunno where that is yet, they still have yet to announce that bit).

For some copypasta from their original announcement with more detailed information, continue on after the break!

PART 1: Q&NeighWe're gonna be setting up our very own livestream where we answer your questions about anything and everything, be it the game, the way our team works, whether we like cereal at breakfast-time. Go ahead and ask!TwT Get on twitter, write your question down with @MLPOnline somewhere in your tweet, and we'll be able to see everyone's questions. You have all week to come up with some great ones!PART 2: DiscussionWe'd also like to have a nice, in depth discussion for all of you to sink your teeth into. It could be the pros versus the cons of including a combat system in games, Designing games that stick to the show or deter from it in varying degrees, Specific difficulties when it comes to making pony games, whatever you want--make sure it's well thought out, and something you'd like to talk about. Let's hear from you!TwT In the comments below, give us your discussion topics. Are there two different sides to your topic? if so, list some pros and cons. Feel free to address other topics posted, whether or not they seem interesting to you and what you have to say. We want to know what interests you!

As a final note, I of course have to tell you that our livesteam is all in good fun. In the discussion portion especially, anything that is brought up will not necessarily be a part of our game. We just want to spend some time with our fans and share our thoughts. Can't wait to hear from you!

More Details on Mane 6's Pon-E3 Stream

Fighting is Magic

Earlier today Mane 6 gave out some more info on their role in Pon-E3. We already knew what they were doing (hosting a stream of the EVO build at on the 14th at 3:00pm PST), but this time they've stated that to ensure everypony gets the best experience possible the team has switched their channel from being on Livestream to Twitch.tv and can be found at http://www.twitch.tv/manesix#. Game Developer's Panel at BroNYCon

Edit: And it's over. Hope you enjoyed the stream!

In a little under half an hour the Pony Game Developer's panel will be airing, featuring various developers of fangames talking about their projects and exhibiting them. I'm really excited for this particular panel and what it promises to reveal to us, and after it's done we will post a summary of new and interesting things from it for all you that can't watch for some reason. If you can we would highly advise to put away whatever you're doing, sit down and watch the stream.

Mane 6 Attending Pon-E3

Mane 6, the team behind My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic will participate in our very own Pon-E3! On Saturday, July 14th (exact time unspecified at the moment) they will host a stream of their "EVO build": a 4-character demo of Fighting is Magic that was intended to be seen at the Indie Showcase of EVO 2012. For those of thus (myself included) who cannot attend EVO 2012 just to see a build of Fighting is Magic this should be quite interesting, as the team's last stream was a couple months ago and a lot has changed since then.

See you on the stream!

24 Hour Spring Break Marathon is LIVE!

The 24 hour spring break marathon is live now, and will be until 12 pm EST tomorrow. Since they're apparently showing an unreleased trailer for MLP:Rise of Vicis at some point during the livestream I would advise watching at some point if you're interested in their project. So get on down there and watch at http://www.livestream.com/gypzsepiclivestream, or just use the embedded player on our website!

24 Hour Spring Break Marathon

From sometime in the afternoon April 6th at 12 pm EST to April 7th at somewhere else in the afternoon 12 pm EST a couple of fellas are holding a 24-ish hour gaming marathon. Now, these happen all the time and without getting posted, so why are you putting this up, you might ask. Well, the thing is at some unspecified point during the livestream they will air an unreleased trailer for MLP: Rise of Vicis. So even if just for the sake of watching that new trailer I encourage you to visit their livestream around noon on April 6th, and watch until your eyeballs fall out of your head from staring at your screen for so long (unless you've got matchstick eyes, or have a bladder of steel).

Xtux, out!
